Intro to Mountaineering

Experience the freedom of the hills and join us in the spectacular Selkirk Mountains for this 5 day mountaineering course. This course covers the essential mountain skills to travel in an alpine environment. Topics you will cover include glacier travel, crevasse rescue, snow and ice climbing, snow and ice anchors, trip planning, route finding, basic map reading and navigation, basic belaying skills and hazard management.

We offer mountaineering courses throughout the summer. Whether you want a custom course for you and your family or would like to join one of our regularly scheduled courses we can accomodate you.

Prerequisites

A good fitness level and the desire to explore and learn.

Location

Our mountaineering courses begin with an evening classroom session begining at 6:00 pm at our office. Trip preparation, equipment and meal planning will be discussed then. Field days are based at the Asulkan Hut in Glacier National Park (Rogers Pass) This hut is located just above treeline and is about a four hour hike from the highway. Many interesting glaciers and peaks are easily accessed from this hut.

Complete Mountaineering

This comprehensive mountaineering course starts with a two day Revelstoke based basic rock climbing and ropework component followed by 4 nights and 5 days in the mountains. This course is either tent based or hut based depending on location and conditions. Taught by professional and certified mountain guides you will gain a well rounded set of skills that you require to progress in this exciting sport. Topics include safe belay systems, rappelling, anchor principles, rope management technique and movement skills as well as glacier travel, crevasse rescue, snow and ice climbing, snow and ice anchors, trip planning, route finding, basic map reading and navigation and hazard management. Experience the serenity and joy of the high alpine, learn new skills and summit beautiful peaks.

Complete Mountaineering Sunset

Cost

$1350.00+ applicable tax for tent based camps. A hut based trip will be slightly more.

Prerequisites

You must have a reasonable level of fitness and be comfortable carrying a pack up to 20 kilos.

Location

Local venues near Revelstoke or Rogers Pass.

Included

All guiding and instruction, group camping gear, parks wilderness passes, dinners, climbing harness and helmet are included.

Not Included

You will be required to provide your own transportation, lunch, breakfasts and snacks, personal camping and mountaineering equipment. Contact us if you need to car pool.

Ratios

5 participants for each guide / instructor. We require a minimum of 4 participants to run the course.

Womens Complete Mountaineering Course, Revelstoke BC

This course is designed for those who want to be challenged and enjoy trying new things. Starting on the morning of the 24th in Revelstoke, we will go over the equipment and make sure everyone has what is needed. We then head to a local provincial campground and set up camp where we will have 2 days of rock climbing in the area before heading out into the mountains for 5 days and 4 nights of mountaineering and backpacking. We may establish a base camp or move camps daily depending on weather and conditions. You will climb some amazing mountains with fantastic views as well as time to sit back and relax at camp while enjoying some great company. The trip will end in the afternoon of the 31st and you will be dropped off back in Revelstoke with your new friends and a grand feeling of accomplishment.

Includes

Guides, transportation during the trip, dinners in the backcountry, group gear, park and hut fees. If you do not have your own climbing harness, climbing shoes, and belay device it can be provided.

Glacier Travel and Rescue Course

If you have dreamed of taking your mountain travel to the next level this is the course for you. With proper skills it is possible to get higher and explore the amazing world of the high alpine. This course will cover all the basics of glacier travel including crevasse rescue and will leave you feeling safer and more comfortable when venturing into glaciated terrain.

Skills covered include:

  • roping up for glacier travel
  • anchor building
  • crevasse rescue

All backcountry hut and park use fees, guiding, instruction and technical rope rescue equipment is included.
